Slovenian PLU to transfer Union beer production to Lasko brewery
LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), October 27 (SeeNews) – The Slovenian unit of Dutch brewer Heineken, Pivovarna Lasko Union (PLU), plans to relocate Union beer production to its Lasko factory in Ljubljana by January 2022, has he announced.
The decision is the result of an independent preventive safety assessment of the 35-year-old refrigeration system at Union Brewery in Ljubljana, which has shown that it is no longer suitable for operation and could pose a significant risk for safety in the future, said PLU. in a statement earlier this week.
Union beer packaging and logistics activities will remain at Union Brewery, while non-alcoholic beverages and water production and administrative and corporate functions will not change location, so will Union Pub and the Union Experience Museum, said PLU.
“Due to the complexity of the processes, we do not yet know exactly how many employees this change will have an impact on. We will look for all possibilities to mitigate these effects – re-employment in other organizational units, possibly in Lasko, possible early retirement, ”communications manager Alenka Rozman said in a video file posted Tuesday on the website of state broadcaster RTV Slovenia.
The Ljubljana site currently employs 145 people and 18 of them work in brewing and fermentation, which is moving to Lasko, Rozman said.
PLU’s net profit declined to 16.7 million euros ($ 19.4 million) in 2020 from 24.4 million euros a year earlier, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
