Helios Brewing Company — Sunshine in a Can

Helios Brewing Company takes its green credentials seriously. Not only is the beer brewed using solar power, but deliveries are made by a solar-powered electric Minicab MiEV and the bar is aesthetically crafted from recycled wood.

Even the bar is eco-friendly.

With food trucks and live entertainment, Helios aims to be a must-see attraction. We arrived on a quiet Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a tray of beer samples and a good look. Sarah was tending the bar and had time to tell us about the virtues of the different craft beers – all named after Greek gods. And we had the pleasure of showing him our Tesla. Tess is also powered by the sun.

Sarah was impressed with the Tesla’s minimalist interior and clean lines. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take it by car.

We didn’t drink too much as some beers have a good kick and someone had to drive home. The brewery has an upper floor with tables, chairs, kids’ activities, great artwork, and great views of the brewing vats. You really know where your beer comes from.

Activities organized by Helios include a Craft LAB Brunch (Ladies Appreciation of Beer Brunch), a collective of women who share a love of craft beer and seek deeper knowledge and a sense of belonging; monthly quiz nights; and the Heavyweight Challenge — it’s your chance to take part in a weight loss challenge, and you don’t even have to lose weight!

From their website: “In Greek mythology, Helios is the sun god. Each morning, the rising sun marks Helios’ passage through the mortal world, driving a chariot pulled by wild horses that only he can control. Helios Brewing Company harnesses the power of the sun to create craft beer in a sustainable way. We are constantly looking for ways to be more efficient with our electricity, water and sustainable practices.

Pop into this friendly boutique brewery anytime to enjoy beer brewed using the power of the Australian sun.
