‘Galentine’s’ Drive collects bras, underwear and hygiene products

SILVER SPRING, MD — Non-profit organization Silver Spring is hosting a month-long drive for bras, underwear, and menstrual products in the spirit of “Galentine” Day.

Silver Spring Cares will have collection points Feb. 1-28, and its efforts will support “I Support The Girls,” which collects and distributes these types of donations, according to a news release.

“People rarely think about donating bras and menstrual products, yet all women and teenage girls need these items,” a statement from I Support The Girls said. “Bras are essential for health, self-esteem, employment, etc. Menstrual products are expensive and needed every month for health and personal hygiene.”

Drop off locations:

  • AstroLab Brewing, 8216 Georgia Ave., Tuesday and Wednesday 4-9pm, Thursday 4-10pm, Friday and Saturday 12-10pm, and Sunday 12-8pm

“This campaign is a great way for Silver Spring Cares to build on our efforts to help those experiencing homelessness, impoverishment or distress to stand up with dignity,” said Monica O’Malley de Castillo, executive director of Silver Spring Cares, in a statement. “These gifts will allow someone to travel the world comfortably. Such small gifts make all the difference.”
