FORT KENT, Maine – The University of Maine at Fort Kent and the First Mile Brewing Company recently partnered in a fun venture designed to bring the community together. The Fort Kent Brewery has added a new beer to its taps aimed at celebrating the university’s connection to the greater community.

Bengal Brew, named after the university’s mascot, will be featured on September 7 at the First Mile, just in time for the Greater Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce’s homecoming activities and homecoming weekend at the house of the UMFK.

The New England IPA will be available at UMFK football games beginning Sept. 9 at the Homecoming Beer Garden at weekend games, the Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner, and in local establishments. Proceeds from beer sales will be used to support UMFK athletics.

“First Mile Brewing Company is pleased to partner with UMFK to create Bengal Brew as we want to support higher education and give back to our local community,” said Travis Guy, one of First Mile’s owners, “We are proud to support UMFK and look forward to future collaborations.

The Beer Garden is a new feature the Bengals are introducing during fall 2022 home games. It will follow all local and state laws and ordinances, including separating those who drink from those who are underage. All persons wishing to enter the Beer Garden will be carded. The staff will follow a card rule for everyone, so fans over 21 must bring their ID.

“I look forward to having a beer garden at home games. It will definitely add to the atmosphere,” said UMFK Athletic Director Carly Flowers, “Having fans at games brings a competitive edge to our athletes. I love the community support and hope to see everyone at a game!”

“In the true spirit of Bengal, our goal through our collaboration with First Mile Brewing was to bring two worlds together for our community,” said Nichole Jandreau, Vice President of the UMFK Foundation. “We look forward to seeing new faces on campus to enjoy the Bengal Brew at our games and events!”
